glassofyou: The Manhattan cocktail. The drink that got Bart Simpson into the Mafia, and a favourite of Jack Kerouac. There is no definitive recipe, but mine will keep you warm in December. I favour the ‘perfect’ Manhattan recipe, which includes equal parts sweet and dry vermouth. Use as much or as little vermouth as you like, skip the garnish entirely if you mean business.  2 1/2 oz. rye whisky 3/4 oz. blend of sweet and dry vermouth 3 dashes Angostura bitters Stir gently and serve in a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with maraschino cherry or zest of orange.  Listen to the fussy nerds and don’t make it with bourbon. For extra credit, read this.
